BYD Ti 7 PHEV Crossover Gets Bigger: Long-Wheelbase Trim Spotted in China

Table of Contents

A long-wheelbase variant of the BYD Ti 7 PHEV crossover has been spotted undergoing road tests in China, signaling that the automaker is preparing a larger version of one of its most successful plug-in hybrid SUVs. The camouflaged prototype was captured by Chinese automotive media outlet Qi Che Che You Quan and reported on October 15, 2026. The sighting matters for overseas buyers because the Ti 7 has become a key part of BYD’s global expansion, with exports already reaching multiple markets. A stretched version would widen the lineup and give distributors and fleet buyers another configuration to consider alongside the standard five-seat domestic model and the seven-seat export variant.

What the Spy Shots Reveal About the BYD Ti 7 PHEV

The latest images show a camouflaged Ti 7 testing on Chinese roads with a distinctly stretched body. The most telling change is the D-pillar, which has been pushed further back, paired with a larger third-row window. Those two details point directly to a longer cabin designed to accommodate more passengers or additional cargo space.

Other exterior elements, including the front fascia, rear end, and lighting signatures, appear unchanged from the standard model. The prototype is also missing most of its exterior plastic cladding, which is typical for early-stage test mules. A visible indent at the rear hints that the production version will retain the standard Ti 7’s rear-mounted spare tire. No interior images have surfaced yet, so cabin layout and materials remain unconfirmed.

Standard Ti 7 Dimensions and Positioning

To understand what the stretched model changes, it helps to look at the current numbers. In China, the Ti 7 is marketed under the Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) brand and retails between 179,800 and 239,800 yuan, roughly 26,900 to 35,800 USD. The domestic FCB Ti 7 is offered only with five seats in a 2+3 configuration, while the export Ti 7 features seven seats in a 2+3+2 layout.

Both domestic and export variants share a 2,920 mm wheelbase and a 4,999 mm length, excluding the rear-mounted spare tire. The standard Ti 7 measures 4,999/1,995/1,865 mm, with curb weight ranging from 2,230 to 2,610 kg depending on powertrain and trim. The long-wheelbase prototype clearly departs from those shared dimensions, though BYD has not published revised figures.

Why a Longer Ti 7 Makes Sense for BYD

Chinese sources expect the stretched Ti 7 to be sold alongside regular models, offering both five- and seven-seat options. That approach would give prospective Ti 7 buyers a natural step up without forcing them into a flagship model, and it could help BYD retain customers who might otherwise be tempted by larger NEV SUV rivals.

The strategy mirrors BYD’s sedan lineup. Just as the Han, Han L, and Da Han (Great Han) sedans create a ladder of increasingly large options, a longer Ti 7 would slot in as a middle choice between the standard Ti 7 and the flagship Ti 9 SUV. For overseas distributors, that middle rung could be especially useful in markets where seven-seat family SUVs command a premium but full-size flagships are harder to position on price.

A Seven-Seat Cabin for Domestic Buyers

The biggest practical gain is expected inside. Interior images have yet to surface, but the long-wheelbase Ti 7 is expected to offer a larger cabin for its seven occupants. Today, Chinese buyers of the FCB Ti 7 can only choose five seats, while export customers already get a seven-seat layout on the same 2,920 mm wheelbase. A stretched body would let BYD offer seven seats domestically without compromising third-row space, a common weak point in mid-size three-row SUVs.

Powertrain Expectations: AWD Standard, Flash Charging

Powertrain options for the larger model are unknown for now, but BYD is not expected to offer an entry-level front-wheel-drive option. The SUV is expected to offer Flash Charging-capable EV and PHEV trims, with all-wheel drive standard across the range. That would represent a meaningful shift from the standard Ti 7, where entry-level PHEV models are limited to FWD.

For reference, the standard Ti 7 is sold in China with both EV and PHEV powertrains. EV models support Flash Charging and are available with 92 kWh and 105.7 kWh batteries, delivering a maximum CLTC range of 755 km, or roughly 612 km under WLTP. Both RWD and dual-motor AWD configurations are offered. PHEV models carry batteries ranging from 26.6 to 50 kWh, with a maximum CLTC range of 315 km, about 255 km WLTP, paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 115 kW (154 hp).

What This Means for Overseas Buyers

The Ti 7 has already proven itself commercially. It briefly became China’s best-selling PHEV SUV and has become a key part of BYD’s global expansion. A long-wheelbase addition would extend that momentum by giving importers a more spacious, seven-seat-capable option built on a familiar platform.

For buyers comparing configurations, the key questions will be pricing, final dimensions, and whether the stretched model reaches export markets at all. Chinese sources frame it as a domestic addition sold alongside the standard car, but BYD’s export strategy has repeatedly followed domestic launches. Buyers tracking the lineup can review the full range on our BYD car models page, and those interested in the electrified side of the platform can read more about BYD Blade Battery technology.

Positioning Against the Ti 9 and Rivals

The stretched Ti 7 would sit below the Ti 9 in size and price, giving BYD a three-tier SUV ladder. That matters in markets where competitors field multiple three-row NEV SUVs at different price points. A standard Ti 7, a long-wheelbase Ti 7, and a Ti 9 would let BYD cover more of the family SUV segment without developing an entirely new nameplate.

What to Watch Next

The next signals to watch are interior spy shots, updated dimensions, and any regulatory filings that reveal battery and powertrain details. Confirmation of whether the long-wheelbase Ti 7 stays China-only or joins BYD’s export portfolio will be the decisive factor for overseas distributors. Pricing relative to the standard model’s 179,800 to 239,800 yuan band will also shape its competitive position.
