BYD Shark 6 Price: How Much Is BYD’s PHEV Pickup from China?

Оглавление

The BYD Shark 6 breaks every pricing rule in this series. It is built in China, exported in huge numbers, and sold from Mexico to Australia — yet for years it had no Chinese retail price at all, because BYD designed it as an export-only product.

That flips the usual buying question. Instead of "how much more do I pay than China?", the question becomes "which export market’s price is closest to reality?" — and the answer depends on freight, duties and how BYD has positioned the pickup in each country.

Here is the short answer: the Shark 6 launched in Mexico at MXN 899,980–969,800, Australia sells the 2026 range from A$55,900, and the Philippines lists it at ₱2,388,000–2,618,000. A Chinese launch under the Fang Cheng Bao brand was expected from late 2026, reportedly around ¥180,000–250,000. Because pickups are long and heavy, shipping costs are higher per car than any sedan or SUV in BYD’s lineup — and this guide explains exactly where that money goes.

The Shark 6: BYD’s export-first pickup

The Shark 6 is BYD’s first pickup truck and the world’s first plug-in hybrid double-cab built at scale. It launched in Mexico in May 2024 — deliberately outside China — and quickly became one of Australia’s best-selling utes, briefly entering the segment’s top three. It is built on the DMO (dual-mode off-road) platform, which BYD also uses under the Fang Cheng Bao brand’s more off-road-oriented models, and it sits at the work-truck end of the BYD model lineup.

The export-first strategy is unusual, and it changes how buyers should think about price. There is no Chinese showroom price to benchmark against, so importers compare against Mexico, Australia, Thailand and the Philippines instead — and each market prices the truck differently depending on taxes, competition with Hilux- and Ranger-class pickups, and local assembly plans.

Shark 6 specs: what the pickup actually is

The original Shark 6 pairs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with two electric motors for a combined output of about 320 kW, roughly 100 km of electric range and a combined driving range around 840 km. The 2026 range added a Performance version with a 2.0-litre turbo engine pushing output to about 350 kW and 700 Nm.

For export buyers the practical question is which body style your market wants. Australia now offers a cab-chassis variant alongside the standard tub, which matters for fleets that fit their own trays.

BYD Shark 6 price from China: why there is no China price (yet)

China has no Shark 6 on sale as of mid-2026. BYD kept the pickup export-focused, and reports indicate a domestic version was planned under the Fang Cheng Bao brand for late 2026, with an estimated price band of ¥180,000–250,000 (about US$25,000–35,000). Until that launch, any quote that claims a "China factory price" for the Shark should be treated with suspicion — the real benchmarks are the export markets themselves, and this is one of the few BYD models where the new-energy vehicle story runs entirely through exports.

That makes the Shark a special case in our sourcing work: we price it against verified dealer and list prices in its actual markets, and we check which spec the factory is currently building for export, because the 1.5T and 2.0T versions are different vehicles.

Who actually buys a Shark 6

The customer base explains why BYD launched outside China. In Mexico, the Shark launched as a lifestyle-ute answer to the Ranger and Hilux, priced to slot above diesel base models but below premium flagships. In Australia, the buyers are tradies and fleets — the cab-chassis variant exists for exactly that crowd — plus families who want electrified running costs without giving up a real tub. In Southeast Asia, interest is real but price-sensitive: Thailand booked units at THB 1.699 million, then demand softened, a warning for any importer planning a large order on hype alone.

The common thread is service. Pickup owners depend on parts and support more than sedan buyers, so the dealer network and warranty story decide sales as much as price does.

Australia is the market to watch. The Shark 6 entered a segment dominated by the Hilux, Ranger and D-Max, and BYD’s pricing sits above the cheapest diesel utes but below diesel flagships — an aggressive "electric premium without the premium price" position. Thailand’s experience shows the risk: strong interest at the motor show, a booking price of THB 1.699 million, then a pause on the launch as demand softened — a reminder that pickup buyers can be conservative about new powertrains.

What changes the BYD Shark 6 price from China

The standard cost stack — factory price, freight, duties, certification, margin — applies, but pickups skew two lines:

  • Freight is the biggest line. At about 5.4 m long, a Shark 6 needs a full container of its own; two units per 40-ft box is the practical maximum with bracing. That pushes container per-car costs well above sedan levels, and RoRo becomes the normal choice.
  • Taxes punish the segment. Pickups attract duty and tax everywhere, and many countries tax them as commercial vehicles with separate rules. The launch-positioning in Mexico and the fleet demand in Australia are both shaped by how the truck is taxed.

Shipping a pickup: the freight math buyers miss

Vehicle freight from China is quoted per car (RoRo) or per container, and the Shark 6 sits at the expensive end of both:

  • RoRo car carriers: per-vehicle rates on busy lanes run roughly US$800–1,500 in normal periods and US$1,200–3,000 when vessel space tightens. Pickups get no special discount — they take the same lane space as larger SUVs.
  • Container: a 40-ft box fits at most two Shark 6s, so per-car container costs on long routes can reach US$1,500–3,000 before port fees, versus US$850–1,850 for a three-car sedan load.
  • Volatility: when freight markets spike — container spot rates on one major Asia route went from a US$734 average in 2025 to US$6,216 in April 2026 — every pickup shipment carries the risk of thousands in extra cost if the quote expires.

The practical advice we give pickup buyers: book RoRo space early, lock the quote with a validity date, and never let a supplier quote "shipping included" without stating the route and month. At Sourcing BYD, we quote Shark 6 freight on the actual vessel space we can hold, and we separate the factory price from freight so you can see the pickup-specific cost clearly.

Questions to ask before importing a BYD Shark 6

  • Which engine? The 1.5T and 2026 2.0T Performance versions are different products with different prices.
  • Tub or cab-chassis? Australia’s cab-chassis option changes freight, price and market fit.
  • RoRo or container? For a pickup this size, RoRo is usually the right answer — confirm space before quoting.
  • What duties apply? Pickup tax treatment varies sharply by country; get the number in writing.
  • Warranty and parts? Pickup buyers depend on service networks; confirm who supports the truck in your market.
  • Is the quote current? Shark 6 prices moved fast in 2025–2026 — Thailand paused, Australia expanded, Mexico repositioned.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does a BYD Shark 6 cost?

Mexico launched at MXN 899,980–969,800; Australia’s 2026 range is A$55,900–62,900; the Philippines lists ₱2,388,000–2,618,000. A Chinese domestic launch was expected from late 2026 at a reported ¥180,000–250,000.

Why is there no BYD Shark 6 price in China?

The Shark 6 was designed as an export-first product. China’s domestic version was planned for late 2026 under the Fang Cheng Bao brand.

Is the Shark 6 available in Australia?

Yes — it is one of the brand’s strongest markets. The 2026 range runs A$55,900–62,900 plus on-road costs, including a new cab-chassis variant.

How much does it cost to ship a BYD Shark 6 from China?

More than any other BYD: roughly US$1,200–3,000 per car on RoRo routes when space is tight, and container costs above US$1,500 per car because only two units fit per 40-ft box.

What is the Shark 6’s range?

About 100 km of electric range and roughly 840 km combined on the launch version, with the 2026 Performance adding more power via a 2.0-litre turbo engine.

Is the Shark 6 a good alternative to a diesel ute?

For buyers who want an electrified double-cab with Toyota HiLux-class practicality, it is the first credible plug-in option at scale — but check towing, payload and local service support for your specific use.
