China’s Dolphin list prices run ¥99,800–125,800 for the 2026 model (roughly US$14,100–17,700), and aggressive dealer promotions in the new-energy vehicle market occasionally drop the entry version near ¥84,000. There is also a longer-running base version with a smaller 302 km CLTC battery that keeps the lineup’s floor lower.

For an export plan, budget around US$14,000–18,000 for the car itself depending on battery and trim. The 520 km version costs several thousand more at factory level but holds its value better in markets where range is the headline spec.

Where the Dolphin sells fastest

Demand is not evenly spread. Southeast Asia treats the Dolphin as a volume model: the Philippines cut the price by ₱270,000 to chase buyers, and Thailand’s Dolphin pricing has been among the lowest of any market. Latin America is a two-speed story — Mexico’s buyers gravitate to the smaller Dolphin Mini, while Brazil sells the full Dolphin at a much higher price because tariffs dominate the cost. Two patterns stand out. In Brazil and Europe, import taxes and homologation costs push the same car to a completely different price level — Europe applies roughly 35% in duties on Chinese-built EVs, and Brazil’s EV import duty reached 35% by mid-2026.

Why the BYD Dolphin price from China is not the final price

The usual cost stack applies — factory price, freight, duties, certification, warranty handling, dealer margin — but three items behave differently for the Dolphin:

• Freight per car is lower. A 4,125 mm hatchback packs four units per 40-ft container, so a full box spreads the container rate across four cars instead of three or two.
• Certification is a fixed cost on a small base. Type approval, emissions or safety compliance, and local testing cost about the same whether the car costs ¥99,800 or ¥200,000. On the Dolphin, that fixed cost is a bigger share of the final price.
• Running cost is part of the value. The Dolphin wins on energy cost, not on speed. Buyers and fleets compare it to petrol city cars on cost per kilometre, which means the "price" question is really a five-year cost question.

The small-car advantage in freight

Size is the Dolphin’s biggest export advantage. A full 40-ft container holds four Dolphin-sized hatchbacks, and when the box is full, per-car ocean freight to Latin American destinations can fall into the roughly US$700–1,400 range — below what any larger BYD achieves.
