BYD officially launched its flagship Qin Max sedan in China on Thursday, August 13, with prices starting at 99,900 yuan ($14,720) and reaching 143,900 yuan for the top version. The B-segment model is the new flagship of BYD’s best-selling Qin family, positioned above the Qin L and aimed mainly at younger consumers.
Pricing and lineup
The BYD Qin Max is offered in DM-i plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions across nine variants. The DM-i lineup starts at 99,900 yuan and tops out at 129,900 yuan, while the EV version spans 109,900 yuan to 143,900 yuan. At the entry price, the Qin Max undercuts many compact sedans while adding technologies that were previously reserved for higher-priced models.
With the new flagship in place, the Qin family now has three models on sale: the Qin Plus, the Qin L DM-i, and the Qin Max. BYD is betting that a larger, more feature-rich sedan can revive interest in a lineup that has lost momentum this year.
A bigger, roomier Qin flagship
The Qin Max measures 4,866 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm — all slightly larger than the Qin L. Its trunk offers 523 liters of space, expandable to a maximum of 1,450 liters, and the cabin includes 27 storage compartments. These numbers position it as a practical family sedan as much as a technology showcase.

Flash charging and the second-generation Blade Battery
The EV version comes standard with BYD’s second-generation Bıçak Akü and flash charging technology, with one year of free flash charging included. Flash charging is BYD’s name for its ultra-fast charging technology; the company unveiled a new generation of the system in March with peak single-gun power of up to 1,500 kW.
Charging times
According to BYD, vehicles with the second-generation Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes when using flash charging. For buyers comparing EVs, that speed addresses one of the biggest remaining barriers to adoption: long stops at public chargers.
EV powertrain options
EV buyers can choose motors with peak power of 240 kW (322 hp) or 120 kW. The faster version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.8 seconds, and CLTC range is rated at 530 km or 630 km depending on the variant. That combination of price, power and range makes the Qin Max EV one of the most aggressive value propositions in its segment.

DM-i hybrid: range and efficiency
The DM-i version pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a 175 kW motor, delivering 320 km of all-electric range and 2,370 km of combined range on a full tank and full charge. BYD says the model consumes 2.59 liters of fuel per 100 km under NEDC conditions when the battery is depleted — the lowest in its class. For buyers in markets where charging infrastructure is still developing, the DM-i’s long combined range is a major selling point.
Intelligent driving and cabin tech
Higher trims add the LiDAR-based God’s Eye B system, which supports urban and highway navigation assist as well as all-scenario parking assist. BYD has pledged to cover parking-related losses and provides one year of coverage for urban navigation assist, an unusual warranty commitment in the segment. The vehicle also includes a built-in AI agent called Didi Xia.
Why the Qin Max matters
The launch is a key step in BYD’s effort to revive one of its main lineups. The Qin family sold 661,090 units in 2025, making it one of BYD’s best-selling lineups and accounting for 14.36% of group sales. But volume has weakened sharply this year: July sales were 13,117 units, down 75.67% year-on-year, and January-July sales fell 50.55% to 162,291 units.
The decline highlights how quickly competition has intensified in China’s compact sedan segment, and why BYD needs a stronger flagship to defend share and pricing. BYD’s broader momentum remains strong: the company sold 419,211 NEVs at wholesale in July, up 21.76% year-on-year, the third consecutive month of annual growth.
What it means for overseas buyers
For overseas buyers, the BYD Qin Max signals that the company is pushing flash charging into mainstream, affordable segments rather than reserving it for premium models. If the model follows the export path of other Qin and Dynasty lineup vehicles, the combination of aggressive pricing and nine-minute charging could intensify competition in export markets where charging speed is a key selling point.
Dealers and fleet operators should also note the cabin space and storage figures, which suggest the Qin Max is designed as a practical all-rounder rather than a marketing-only flagship. A full overview of the current BYD model lineup is a useful starting point for comparing export availability.
Bundan sonra ne izlemeli?
The launch calendar for the second half will show whether flash charging spreads further down the lineup and how quickly BYD can restore Qin family volumes. Watch for export announcements, the rollout of God’s Eye B to lower trims, and how the Qin Max performs against the Qin Plus and Qin L in its first full sales month.
