BYD’s premium brand Denza will launch the all-electric N8L in China on September 14, adding a battery-electric version to its large six-seat SUV lineup. The Denza N8L EV combines a 130.15 kWh LFP Blade Battery with a claimed 960 km CLTC driving range, while its electric drivetrain frees up space for a 208-litre powered front trunk with a drain plug. The N8L originally launched in October 2025 as a plug-in hybrid starting at 299,800 yuan (42,270 USD). Denza later added Flash Charging versions, starting at 319,800 yuan (45,090 USD). The D9 MPV remains Denza’s primary sales driver, selling 6,873 units in July in China, while the brand’s SUV lineup competes increasingly with large electrified models from Li Auto and Aito.

A 3.1-Tonne SUV with a 130 kWh Battery

The N8L EV measures 5,200 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,820 mm tall, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase. Chinese regulatory filing lists its curb weight at 3,110 kg. That mass is paired with a 130.15 kWh LFP Blade Battery supplied by BYD’s FinDreams Battery. Denza rates the N8L EV for 960 km of CLTC range (approx. 785 km WLTC), which we previously documented when the same 130.15 kWh battery was certified in the standard Denza N8 for 1,003 km CLTC (approx. 820 km WLTC). The production vehicle uses a single rear permanent-magnet synchronous motor rated at 370 kW (503 hp), with a listed top speed of 240 km/h. Earlier engineering registrations showed a tri-motor configuration, but the production vehicle approved for launch uses the single rear motor. The rear-drive layout leaves the front bay available for a 208-litre powered front trunk. Denza general manager Li Hui said the compartment has a covered drain that can be rinsed clean, allowing it to carry items such as camping or beach equipment.

Chassis and Cabin: DiSus-A and Six Seats

The N8L EV is equipped with DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension and active rear-wheel steering, with the rear wheels capable of turning by up to ±10 degrees. Its listed turning radius is 4.58 meters. For a 5.2-meter-long SUV, that hardware helps reduce the space needed for tight turns and parking. The cabin features a six-seat 2+2+2 layout upholstered in brown leather. The N8L is equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system, marketed domestically in China as God’s Eye B. Denza’s configuration data lists one LiDAR, five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 12 driver-assistance cameras. The system supports highway and urban navigation assistance, point-to-point navigation assistance, automated parking and obstacle-avoidance functions. The SUV uses a six-seat 2+2+2 cabin.

How the Denza N8L EV Compares to Rivals

The N8L EV enters a segment where large electrified SUVs use different approaches to range, propulsion and packaging. The N8L EV’s battery is roughly 28% larger than the Nio ES8’s 102 kWh pack and 30% larger than the Aito M9 EV’s 100 kWh battery. Its 208-litre frunk is larger than the M9 EV’s 150-litre front storage, although the ES8 offers a larger 230-litre compartment. The N8L PHEV provides a pricing reference. Its current Flash Charging versions start at 319,800 yuan (45,090 USD) and rise to 349,800 yuan (49,320 USD), while the BEV’s retail price remains undisclosed. Battery Economics Behind the Large Pack

A 130.15 kWh battery represents a significant material commitment in a vehicle weighing more than three tonnes. Battery-grade lithium carbonate, a key lithium feedstock for LFP cells, was trading around 152,000 yuan per tonne in early September. The N8L EV’s 960 km CLTC rating should be read within the CLTC test cycle, not as an equivalent real-world highway range. Denza has not yet disclosed peak DC charging power or 0–100 km/h acceleration. The LFP chemistry, part of BYD’s بطارية الشفرة family, is known for durability and safety, though it is less energy-dense than NCM packs. That trade-off is managed here through sheer pack size and efficient packaging.

Market Context: Denza’s SUV Push

Denza sold 4,460 N8L units in China in July, up 11.4% month on month and marking its highest monthly volume since December 2025, according to China EV DataTracker. The EV version will therefore enter the market as Denza seeks to build on an existing N8L customer base. The N8L EV’s final price and remaining performance and charging specifications will be confirmed when it launches on September 14. Denza’s lineup also includes the Z9 GT, which recently added a 1,140-hp tri-motor EV trim at 49,200 USD, 6,000 USD below the performance version. The brand is positioning itself as a technology leader within BYD’s portfolio, targeting premium buyers who compare directly with Nio, Li Auto and Aito.

What This Means for Overseas Buyers

For international distributors and buyers, the Denza N8L EV signals the direction of China’s large electric SUV segment: bigger batteries, longer CLTC ratings, and packaging advantages from dedicated EV platforms. The 208-litre frunk is a tangible differentiator in daily use, and the 130.15 kWh pack size places the N8L EV at the top of its class for energy capacity.
